GHD grew out of the business of Alan Gordon Gutteridge, who set up a consulting engineering practice in Melbourne in 1928. The partnership of Geoffrey Davey [1] and Gerald Haskins joined with Gutteridge's firm in 1939, establishing the formal partnership of Gutteridge Haskins and Davey.
Significant projects undertaken by the company include the design of the Sydney Opera House facade, land-use and infrastructure master plans of the Palm Islands in Dubai, and event overlays for the Sydney and Beijing Summer Olympics.
More recently, GHD was engaged as the independent verification and testing agency (IVTA) to provide technical advice on concrete, steel and other specialist building materials for the world's tallest building, the Burj Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates.
